The Assumption of Mary and the Power of the Rosary
Every August 15th, Catholics around the world celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the beautiful truth that Mary, at the end of her earthly life, was taken body and soul into Heaven by her son, Jesus Christ. This feast reminds us of the hope we have in Christ and the promise of eternal life for those who follow Him faithfully.
Mary’s Assumption isn’t just a moment in history, it’s an invitation to draw closer to Jesus through prayer, trust, and devotion. One of the most treasured ways to walk with Mary is by praying the Rosary.
Why the Rosary Matters
Praying the Rosary involves more than moving from bead to bead; it’s a meditation on Christ’s life through Mary. The traditional rosary has five decades. Each decade invites us to reflect on a mystery of joy, sorrow, light, or glory, drawing our hearts deeper into the love of God.
The Feast of the Assumption is celebrated by praying the Glorious Mysteries, ending with the Coronation of Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth. This is a beautiful way to honor Mary on this holy day.
How to Pray the Rosary
If you have never prayed the Rosary before, do not worry. It is a prayer that guides the heart and mind closer to God, and you can learn it one step at a time. Here’s a simple guide to get started:
1. Begin with holding the rosary and making the Sign of the Cross.
2. Hold the crucifix and pray the Apostles’ Creed.
3. Pray the Our Father on the first large bead.
4. Say three Hail Mary’s on the next three small beads and then the Glory Be.
5. Announce the first mystery and pray one Our Father. There are four mysteries, Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, or Luminous and each mystery has five individual events.
6. On each set of ten small beads, pray a Hail Mary, meditating on the mystery.
7. Pray the Glory Be and optionally the Fatima Prayer: “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.”
8. Repeat for all five mysteries.
9. After the five decades, pray the Hail Holy Queen and then make the Sign of the Cross.

Rosaries as a Catholic Gift
A rosary isn’t just a devotional keepsake, it’s a deeply meaningful Catholic gift for baptisms, First Communions, weddings, confirmations, or even to celebrate Marian feast days like the Assumption. Each bead represents a prayer waiting to be offered, a spiritual treasure for the soul who receives it.
Bringing the Assumption into Daily Life
The Assumption reminds us that our time on earth is a journey toward Heaven. Through her faithful ‘yes’ to God, Mary exemplifies perfect discipleship and through praying the Rosary, we can learn to offer our own “yes” with greater faithfulness.
On August 15th, take time to pray the Rosary, whether alone, with your family, or with your parish. Let the Assumption inspire you to lift your heart toward Heaven and grow closer to Jesus through Mary.

Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended into hell;
on the third day He rose again from the dead;
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty;
from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting. Amen.
Our Father (Lord’s Prayer)
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
Glory Be (Doxology)
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
Fatima Prayer (optional, after each decade)
O my Jesus, forgive us our sins,
save us from the fires of hell,
and lead all souls to Heaven,
especially those in most need of Thy mercy. Amen.
Hail, Holy Queen (Salve Regina)
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy,
our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.
May God Bless You and Always Keep You in His Care!
